We visited Russian River Rose Company, Sunday, during their last open garden of the year.  Jan and Mike offered a variety of activities in their beautiful fall gardens that are still full of life and color.

I spotted a number of bird and butterfly species, including a rather forlorn-looking hummingbird.  It was quite vocal and seemed to be challenging all comers.  I don’t know whether the ruffled head feathers were from battles or just from the time of year, but this little bundle of noise certainly was an entertaining soul.

While there were marvelous displays of rose hips, organic tea for sipping, a wreath-making workshop, a local woodworker with his children’s furniture, roses, salvias, and iris for purchase, the real draw is the peace and tranquility found in the gardens.  This is truly a beautiful spot, a living garden of light and beauty.  We were blessed by the perfect fall day—sunshine and blue skies and temperatures in the 70s.  We really couldn’t ask for anything more.

Even small children enjoy and outing to Russian River Rose Company.
