Beyond the solstice.

Cloudy January night over Healdsburg, CA.

I celebrate the winter solstice, not just for the understanding that we have come to the day of deepest darkness of the year (in the northern hemisphere), but because it signifies the passing from that darkness back into the light.  My personal celebration of light has just begun.  We’ve passed from the waning to the waxing light bringing with it the joy of new life.  While there will be plenty of dark and gloomy days ahead this winter, the light has turned and we joyfully anticipate the gentle reawakening.
